Project: Ceramics
Create two pieces made out of clay:
Piece #1 -- Wheel thrown form -- 6" - 8" (min.) cylindrical form with a dynamic shape.
Piece #2 -- Hand-built form -- Create a piece of sculpture that includes a detailed portion of your face (nose and one eye, nose and mouth, ear and one eye, etc.) and have the form slowly transition into the face of an animal. Use a mirror to depict features of your face as realistically as possible. Source books will be provided to help depict animal features. Consider bringing a picture of a favorite animal to class.
Specific Grading Criteria:
- Is the wheel thrown project actually 6"-8" and cylindrical in shape?
- Is the wheel thrown project trimmed?
- Does the glaze and/or under-glaze of the wheel thrown project compliment the form?
- Does the hand-built project fulfill the project criteria listed above?
- Is the hand-built project inventive and non-stylized?
- Does the hand-built project include refined detail and good craftsmanship?
