Foundation Art
Assignment #6
Large-scale pastel project
Home | Ceramics | Drawing | Photography | Foundation Art
Project: Select a 1'' by 1 3/4" area of one of your pinhole photographs. Quickly sketch the general composition and begin assigning color so as to achieve a maximum sense of depth in the overall work. Remember that warm colors tend to advance, while cool colors tend to recede. Also remember that color saturation (tints, shades, etc...) plays a key role in achieving a sense of depth. Asymmetrical balance and abstract qualities are strongly encouraged. Consider adding imaginary detail and blending large areas of negative space into dynamic fields of color.
Scale: 18" x 24"
Medium: pastel
Specific Grading Criteria:
- Is the composition dynamic (i.e. variety, abstract, inventive)?
- Has color been effectively managed to achieve a maximum sense of depth?
- Does object scale and detail support the notion of deep space?
- Have colors been blended and mixed well to achieve a unique quality?
